English Language Cinema – April 2018

Generally in Italy non-Italian films are dubbed into Italian rather than shown with subtitles. However, the most part of our movies are screening in original version with italian subtitles.

F For Fake by Orson Welles, France / Iran / West Germany, 1973, 89′ | english with italian subtitles. Tickets: 5€ regular / 4€ reduced

Orson Welles’ free-form documentary about fakery focusses on the notorious art forger Elmyr de Hory and Elmyr’s biographer, Clifford Irving, who also wrote the celebrated fraudulent Howard Hughes autobiography, then touches on the reclusive Hughes and Welles’ own career (which started with a faked resume and a phony Martian invasion). On the way, Welles plays a few tricks of his own on the audience.

A two-segment look at the effect of the military mindset and war itself on Vietnam era Marines. The first half follows a group of recruits in boot camp under the command of the punishing Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. The second half shows one of those recruits, Joker, covering the war as a correspondent for Stars and Stripes, focusing on the Tet offensive.
